The Mural House

Project Overview

The Mural House is a sustainable home that harmonizes art, architecture, and energy efficiency. With sustainability at the core of the project, high-performance windows and doors were designed to minimize heat loss in the coastal climate. Daylighting and passive ventilation further reduce reliance on mechanical systems.

A Vibrant and Energy Efficient Design

The home operates entirely on clean energy, producing more than it consumes with a HERS score of -12. A roof-mounted photovoltaic array powers the home’s energy-positive performance, while daylighting and passive ventilation reduce reliance on mechanical systems throughout. Bright, colourful interiors and abundant natural light make the home as much a work of art as a feat of sustainable design.

The Mural House is designed to be next-level energy efficient, achieving an impressive HERS score of -12 while showcasing breathtaking views of Yaquina Bay. Combining sustainability with modern design, the home produces more energy than it consumes without compromising comfort or scenery. Featuring a roof-mounted photovoltaic (PV) array, this is our first “positive energy” home — producing more energy than it consumes while combining sustainability, comfort, and modern design.

Unique Artistic Flair

Inspired by the mural history of the nearby Bayfront District, the home centres on a striking interior mural as a defining architectural feature. A staircase wraps around the artwork, visually connecting all three levels while creating layered sightlines between the interior spaces and Yaquina Bay beyond — completing a home where sustainability, art, and architecture are inseparable.

Sustainability and Design

Innotech’s Defender 76TS windows create a seamless connection between indoors and outdoors, allowing natural light to flow throughout the home while framing breathtaking views of Yaquina Bay. Engineered for expansive openings, the system delivers exceptional thermal efficiency, durability, and air and water resistance — minimizing heat loss and supporting long-term coastal performance.
