We are honoured to have contributed to the Knight Building, which recently received First Place in the Modular Building Institute Awards for Distinction for Permanent Modular Workforce Housing. The building is a statement of architectural excellence and affordable, high-quality workforce housing.
It is the first large-scale mass timber modular building in the United States, combining two advanced construction methods: modular construction and mass timber. The Knight Building is an outstanding example of innovation and integrated collaboration — made even more remarkable by the fact that it was completed in just 11 months using 120 prefabricated modules, and delivered under budget. Beyond construction, the project supports the local economy and addresses much-needed housing for local workers.
Innotech’s high-performance windows connect residents with natural light and the surrounding mountainous landscape, while also allowing for natural ventilation throughout the building. The biophilic design further strengthens residents’ connection to nature and supports overall well-being.
The Knight Building demonstrates how modular mass timber construction can deliver affordable, sustainable, high-quality housing faster and more efficiently than conventional methods — all while enhancing occupant wellness and a sense of community. In doing so, it paves the way for what the future of sustainable housing could look like, showing the possibilities for scalable solutions for the workforce of tomorrow.
